Incident details

Island-wide advisory. (Kingston – Saturday, November 9, 2024 / 4:00pm) JPS has now completed restoration of power to customers who were impacted by outages caused by Tropical Storm Rafael. JPS President & CEO, Hugh Grant, has announced that all parishes were fully restored as at 3:00pm today, with only one business customer in Port Esquivel, St Catherine, still without service due to access challenges caused by swampy terrain. The company is working to relocate the line supplying this facility in order to restore service to the customer as soon as possible. “I am very happy that we were able to restore our customers ahead of the tight timeline we set for ourselves, and without any safety incident,” the JPS CEO indicated. “I am particularly encouraged by the improvements in our stakeholder engagement and outreach during this restoration process. We were able to work closely with the Ministry of Energy, the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR), various municipalities, Members of Parliament and other community representatives, who were able to share information to help us execute on our restoration strategy safely and quickly. I really want to thank our customers for their patience ov

What to do while you wait

Save phone battery

Drop screen brightness, enable low-power mode, and close background apps. Aim for one full charge to last 12+ hours.

Protect appliances

Unplug TVs, fridges and ACs to avoid surge damage when power returns. Leave one bulb on so you'll know when it's back.

Keep the fridge cold

Avoid opening it. A full freezer stays cold ~48h closed, a fridge ~4h. Fill empty space with frozen water bottles.
